JVC Everio GZ-MG330 won't focus, although setting says "auto"?

Thanks in advance for the help. I have a JVC Everio GZ-MG330. In the past few days, it won't focus or zoom when recording. The manual says to set the focus to auto, but doesn't tell *how* to do that. There's an "auto/manual" on on the side body of the camera, and I set that to "auto" but still no focus or zoom. Am I missing the focus setting? I've tried resetting to factory settings, but still no good. Help!
